Scholarships For Veterinary Technicians

If you are interested in studying to become a veterinary technician, you might be interested in learning more about the scholarships for veterinary technicians that are available to help you cover the costs of your education. Of course you can apply to any general scholarships that you might qualify for depending on the type of program you are attending (2 year or 4 year), however there are also scholarships that are meant particularly for students studying to become veterinary technicians.

Available Scholarships

One of the Scholarships For Veterinary Technicians is the American Kennel Club and Bayer K9 Advantix Scholarship. This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to 25 students each year. In order to qualify for this scholarship, you need to be a member of the National Association of Veterinary Technicians of American (NAVTA) and they should be attending a veterinary technician program that has been accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). They must be full time students. The awards are given based on the applicant's academic achievement and potential, their activities in regard to small animals, and their activities in NAVTA.

There are also Scholarships For Veterinary Technicians who wish to get their Behavior specialization. There are two or three of these scholarships for $2,500 awarded each year by the Academy of Veterinary Behavior Technicians (AVBT) and the Society of Veterinary Behavior Technicians (SVBT). This scholarship is to be used to attend the Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training and Behavior (with the remaining $2,800 of tuition to be your own responsibility).

Applying For Scholarships

If you are interested in pursuing the above scholarship, you need to first apply to the Karen Pryor Academy and tell them that you wish to be considered for the "Faith" scholarship, and then upon acceptance you need to send them references from two veterinarians and two clients. You also need to be a member of SVTB, and have been in practice for at least two years. You will need to travel to Indiana with a dog to attend four workshops, and will be responsible for your own expenses.

These are just a couple of the Scholarships For Veterinary Technicians that are available, if you are interested in finding out more about the available scholarships you can do a search on the internet to see what is being offered. You can also check with the different professional organizations, as they should be aware of many of the scholarships that are available for people who wish to enter the profession or further their qualifications.

NAVTA stands for National Association of Veterinary Technicians IN America, not OF America.
