Vet tech schools in Florida include Brevard Community College, Miami-Dade College and the St. Petersburg College. Brevard has a two-year associate science degree program with academics and clinical practice that is conducted both at the school’s clinical facility and outside clinical sites. The program is approved by the American Veterinary Medical Association’s (AMVA) Committee on Veterinary Technology Education and Activities (CVTEA) and meets the Florida Department of Education certification standards for the profession. It’s a six-semester course at Miami-Dade College also resulting in an associate degree. Students get at least 400 hours of clinical exposure and completion of the course, earn an associate science degree and will qualify graduates to sit for the national certification exam. St. Petersburg boasts of an 11 million dollar state-of-the-art veterinary technology facility that is right next door to the Pinellas County Animal Services. Its program both in campus and online are also accredited by the (CVTEA). Individuals who intend to pursue this career path may also opt for the four-year degree program for veterinary technology.
