Vet tech schools in Pennsylvania that have associate degree programs include Harcum College, which offers a 97-credit veterinary technology program. It is a six-semester program that also features two Practica, or clinical components. The first is at the small animal clinic of the University of Pennsylvania, and the second is at the New Boston Center. These are 40 hours per week and runs 12 weeks each. There are evening and weekend duties involved. The program is accredited by the American Veterinary Medicine Association and completion of the technician program makes graduates eligible to sit for the state certification exam as well as the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science. Lehigh Carbon Community College’s School of Health Sciences offers an associate in applied science degree for veterinary technician program. It is a two-year training developed jointly with the Northampton Community College. A 6-credit veterinary technician externship is set during the last of the six-semesters. It is exposure to multiple live animals, both small and large, in various environments that helps develop the skills of future vet techs.
